Mujeres Fuertes: The Strong Women of Juárez

In January 2011, Amigos started a sewing initiative along with Yobel Market, a Colorado Springs based fair trade organization, and five women from our neighborhood in Ciudad Juarez. The project is now officially entitled Mujeres Fuertes (Strong Women). It’s an extremely pertinent title for our friends in Juárez. And for the past year and a half, despite many obstacles, their strength has shined like the desert sun and these five incredible women are exploring their own creativity and beginning to thrive.

Yobel Market, who helped us kickstart this initiative, currently sells the Mujeres Fuertes products out of their storefront in Old Colorado City, and online. Yobel has been a loyal partner, not only for us, but for the women of Colonia Palo Chino, our beloved neighborhood. If you are living on the Colorado front range, visiting Yobel Market’s shop is a must-do! It’s loaded with creative artistic inspiration and feels like an art gallery that serves to empower people all over the world. It’s a truly stunning boutique.

These are photos of some of the items for sale and on display at Yobel.

Our special thanks to our beautiful Circle Scarf models, Roxy and Luxe and photographer Lisa!
